About project
The main goal of the project is a comparative analysis of the mental models and attitudes of society in the context of the perception of the legitimacy of taking action oriented towards the protection of the Earth’s environment. In addition, the study is aimed at learning about the relationship between the state of our planet’s biosphere and the condition of individuals’ mental health.
The need to conduct the above analysis was motivated by the insufficient interest of the public and academia in the problem of adverse environmental changes and their destructive impact on the psyche of a significant part of the planet’s population. Evolution and natural conditions have determined the formation of a profound relationship between the physical and mental health of humans and close contact with the environment of which we are a part. Uncharacteristic of both, the dynamics of the changes experienced, caused by harmful human activities on the biosphere, has become the cause of numerous consequences for the biosphere itself and, as a result, also for the mental condition of its inhabitants.
In order to collect a sufficient amount of high-quality data, a method of survey research directed to two specific target groups will be used – people over the age of 18, living in Poland and one hundred people in the same age range residing in the United Kingdom. Diversification of the studied group will allow not only to learn about the specific behavior and attitudes of each of the societies in question, but also the similarities and differences between them. In addition, industry experts will be invited to participate in the project, providing their own thoughts and viewpoints, as well as lending additional expertise through a series of video interviews.
The data collected, following a detailed comparative analysis and inference process, will provide a fuller understanding of the existing problem of environmental indifference in Polish and British society, and a deeper understanding of the issues in the field of eco-psychology, which may play a significant role in psychological care and mental well-being support in the coming years and decades.
